After that, he was a textile and apparel sales representative in the Chicago and Midwest market area, working side by side with his cousin and best freiend, Wndell Slayton. In later years, their business shifted to the sale of salt products.1
Jim and Connie retured to the Sugar Mill Golf Community in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where they enjoyed golf, travel, and their friends. They continued to be active members in the Lutheran Church. Their Chicago Church was Grace Lutheran Missouri Synod in Western Springs, Illinois and their New Smyrna church was Trinity Lutheran Church.1

He donated a building for the Senior Center (J.C. "Cliff" and Ruth Dole Senior Center) and a building with furnishings for the Ruth Dole Memorial Library and a park in their names. Jim also donated to many charities.4,2 James was divorced from Lola Jean Castleman in 1980 at Kansas.6

Jim also donated to many charities.4,2 James was divorced from Lola Jean Castleman in 1980 at Kansas.6

James died on 28 April 2014 in Burrton Township, Harvey County, Kansas, at age 75. Memorial services were held at the First Christian Church of Burrton with Pastor Charles Kerr officiating..8,2 He was buried in the Burrton Cemetery at Burrton Township, Harvey County, Kansas.2
