     Earle Leland Slayton was born on 31 July 1892 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.1,2

Earle appeared in the census of 1900 in the household of his father Henry Howard Slayton at 1st Ward, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. He was 4 (actually 8), born in Iowa.3 He appeared in the census of 1910 in the household of his father Henry Howard Slayton in Chicago, Illinois. He was 17, born in Iowa.4
Earle registered for the draft for World War I on 5 June 1917 at Precinct 1, Ward 6, Kansas City, Missouri. He was single, living at the YMCA, and working as a salesman for Meinrath Brokerage Co, 1302 Union Ave. He claimed an exemption from the draft for physical reasons.5

Earl appeared in the census of 1920 in the household of his father Henry Howard Slayton at Chicago Ward 7, Cook County, Illinois. He was 27, a salesman of creamery supplies, born in Iowa.6
Earle married Lillian Gertrude Mitchell on 2 September 1922 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. The marriage took place at 6152 Stewart Ave. in Chicago. Earle and Lillian had two children; Robert Earle Slayton (1926-2001) and Maribel Slayton..7,8

Earle was listed as the head of household in the 1930 Census in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was 37, born in Iowa, and listed as a working as salesman in a dairy company. Included in the household were his wife, Lillian (28, IL); his son, Robert (3, IL); and his daughter, Maribel (1 month, IL).9

After Lillian's death in 1939, Earle married Florence Cook on 29 June 1942 in Chicago. Florence had previously married William F. Gleason about 1926. He died in 1936 from a malignant melanoma, leaving Florence with two children; William, born about 1927; and Charles, born in 1930..10

Earle registered for the World War II draft in April 1947 at Wilmette, Cook County, Illinois. He was 49 and working at the Cherry Burrell Corp. on Randolph St., Chicago and living at 621 Maple Ave., Wilmette.11
Earle died in April 1978 in Chicago at age 85.12 He was buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.13
