  1. [S1141] Personal Conclusion by Bill Stanley. Source listing graves in Oakland Cemetery, Big Grove Twp, Johnson Co., IA (Source 411) lists Harriet's date of death as 14 Aug 1863 at age of 5m 7d giving a date of birth of 7 March 1863. However, this date is after the death of her mother on 5 Feb 1863 in the same source. It seems likely that the two death dates are correct and there has been an error in transcription or in Harriet's age at death. For now, assume that the death age figures were transposed and she actually died at 7m 5d giving a birth date of 9 Jan 1863 only a few weeks before her mother's death.

FatherGeorge Washington Kinney b. 5 Nov 1832, d. 23 Mar 1893

Eugene was included in the household of his father George Washington Kinney in the Iowa State Census in 1856 in Johnson County.Although the 1856 Census says that Eugene was born in Ohio like his parents, this was probably a mistake because the 1860 Census says he was born in Iowa and his parents were married and lived there. Note that his gravestone says Eugene was born in March, 1857 which is hard to reconcile with his entry in the 1856 Census.1 Eugene B. Kinney was born on 8 March 1857 in Big Grove Township, Johnson County, Iowa.2,3

Eugene appeared in the census of 1860 in the household of his father George Washington Kinney in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 4, born in Iowa.4

Eugene appeared in the census of 1870 in the household of his father George Washington Kinney at 3rd Ward, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. He was 14, born in Iowa.5

Eugene married Maggie H. Jones on 7 November 1884 in Polk County, Iowa.7

Eugene appeared Census of 1885 in the household of his father George Washington Kinney in Beaver Township, Polk County. He was 29.8

Eugene received a bequest in the will of George Washington Kinney on 15 March 1893 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa; He left one-third of his estate to his wife Mary; a gold watch to his son George E; and the remainder of his estate divided equally between his four children, E. B. Kinney, Charles N. Kinney, Mabel Slayton, and George E. Kinney. Charles N. Kinney was appointed Administrator.9 Eugene died on 1 September 1901 at Polk County, Iowa, at age 44.10,3 He was buried in the Mitchellville Cemetery at Polk County. Per the biography of Charles N. Kinney, Eugene left a widow and a daughter, Florence, when he died..11,12 A probate for the estate of Eugene B. Kinney (Doc. 14, No. 4415) was filed on 23 September 1901. Date of birth calculated from gravestone and listed in WPA Grave Registration is 8 March 1857. This agrees with the birthdate on his gravestone. This seems to conflict with the 1856 which gives his age as 0 unless 1st baby died and 2nd baby was given same name. Birthplace given as Ohio in the census but this is unlikely since parents were just married in Johnson County, IA. Subsequent censuses show IA as birthplace.

Charles Noyes Kinney was born on 21 April 1868 at Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa.1,2

Charles appeared in the census of 1870 in the household of his father George Washington Kinney in 3rd Ward, Des Moines, Iowa. He was 2, listed as born in Ohio but apparently this was a mistake because the family had lived in Iowa for years and all other census records show his birthplace as Iowa..3

Per a Polk Co., Beaver Twp. plat map for 1907, Charles N. owned land in Sec 26. His wife, Golda, owned land in Sec. 25. Another plat in Sec 26 is also listed for C.M.Kinney, probably a misprint for C.N.Kinney.
