Sarah R. Brown

F, b. 13 March 1835, d. 5 February 1863
Sarah R. Brown was born on 13 March 1835 in Ohio. Based on the 1850 Census (Iowa, Johnson Co., Big Grove Twp., p.183), her father was almost certainly Peleg Brown (75, NY). Her mother was not listed, presumably dead. However, Sarah apparently had 2 brothers; William, 21, and Willis, 18, and a sister Sophia, 12, all born in Ohio. In 1860, Willis and Sophia were living together very close to George and Sarah.

FindaGrave shows her parents as Pelick Clark Brown (1800-1860) and Lydia A Adams Brown (1800-1840). Her siblings were Albion Brown (1830-1857) and Sophia Matilda Brown Davis (1838-1869)..1,2

Sarah was included in the household of her husband George Washington Kinney in the Iowa State Census in 1856 in Johnson County. She was 21, born in Ohio. She had lived in Iowa for 17 years (since age 4).5

Sarah appeared in the census of 1860 in the household of her husband George Washington Kinney in Iowa City, Iowa. She was 25, born in Ohio.6

Sarah died on 5 February 1863 in Johnson County, Iowa, at age 27.7,2 She was buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Solon at Big Grove Township, Johnson County.8,2

Note that this date of death appears to conflict with the apparent birth of her daughter, Harriet S., on 7 March 1863 (calculated from age at death). It seems probable that Sarah's stated death date is more accurate than the calculated birth date of her daughter. She may have died in childbirth or shortly thereafter.
