Sarah Unknown1

F, b. 1730, d. before 1813
Sarah Unknown was born in 1730.2

Several Ancestry Family Trees list Elizabeth Hunter as the wife of John Arnold Ball. Although usually not cited, this apparently was indicated in a DAR record. Several SAR Membership Applications state that John Arnold's wife was named Elizabeth with no last name, again without attribution. Some Family Trees show that John Arnold had two wives, Elizabeth Hunter and Sarah Unknown without attribution. Herein his wife is presumed to be Sarah Unknown since she is specifically identified as the mother of Isaiah and Dennis Ball in an 1813 deed. Sarah is also listed as John Arnold's wife in the detailed Chesebro and Gordon Lane Ball biographies although again without attribution. It is possible that John Arnold had married someone, possibly Elizabeth Hunter, before Isaiah's birth in 1764 which could account for the 9-year gap between the birthdates of Caleb and Isaiah in 1755 and 1764 respecctively.3

Sarah married John Arnold Zopher Ball circa 1762.4

John and Sarah may have had a son, John Ball, born 1765 in Frederick County, Virginia.5

Sarah probably appeared in the census of 1790 in the household of her husband John Arnold Zopher Ball at West Bethlehem Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania.6

In 1793, Sarah was a member of the Columbia Baptist Church in Hamilton County, Ohio (founded in 1790, this was the oldest church in the county).

Sarah died before 1813 in Butler County, Ohio.7

On 1 April 1813 Sarah was identified as the mother of Isaiah and Dennis Ball when a plot of ground was reserved for her grave.8,9
