     Eve Caress was born on 10 March 1768 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Peter Cariss (Caress, Caris) and Mary Jenkins Caress..1,2

Eve married Benjamin Stafford in 1798?. Benjamin and Eve had eleven children, six boys and five girls but is not clear whether he had one wife or two. No marriage records have been found. Their children included:

- Martha Stafford (1796 - ?);
- Nancy D Stafford (1798 - ?);
- John Stafford (1800 - ?);

Note that there is a gravestone in Marco Cemetery for Martha, wife of Benj. Stafford, died Dec 27, 1811, aged 32Y 11M, 26D (calculated birthdate 1 Jan 1811). On this basis, most of Benjamin's children would have been hers and his marriage to Eve would have been after 1811..3,4,5

Eve probably appeared in the census of 1820 in the household of her husband Benjamin Stafford at Sullivan County (subsequently split into Greene County), Indiana. She was in the 45 and over age group; 45 and over.6

Eve died on 13 December 1824 at age 56.7,8 She was buried in the Marco Cemetery at Greene County, Indiana.9,8


Eve probably appeared in the census of 1840 in the household of her husband Benjamin Stafford at Greene County, Indiana. She was in the 40-50 age group.10

     Elihu Line was born in 1787 in Pennsylvania.1

Elihue married Nancy Bell (1787-1872). They had at least 3 children: Dennis ( -1846), Rachel Line Blakr (1811-1839), and Selome Line Jessup (1814-1887). Nancy died on 12 Nov 1872 and is buried in the Monon Chapel Cemetery in White County, Indiana.1

Elihu died on 21 December 1849 in Indiana.1 He was buried in the Monon Chapel Cemetery at Monon, White County, Indiana.1

Henry may have appeared in the census of 1790 in the household of his father John Arnold Zopher Ball at West Bethlehem Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He was in the under 16 age group.3

Henry married Polly Meadows circa 1809.4

Per Tracy Jones' Web site, 12/21/99, Henry served in War of 1812, was taken prisoner by the Indians and held for 12 years. He adopted their customs and habits and finally married the Chief's daughter.

Henry died on 15 January 1880 at age 90.5,2 He was buried in the Portland Mills Cemetery at Hollandsburg, Parke County, Indiana.6
