     Benjamin was born on 1 June 1807 at Jefferson County, Kentucky.1,2

Benjamin Jr. came to Greene County (then part of Sullivan County) in 1818 with his brother Jesse, and settled on Black Creek, just east of Marco, Stafford Township. Benjamin Jr. is also listed as one of first settlers in Washington Twp, Greene County.

Baber indicates that Benjamin Jr. lived on a good farm in Stafford Township about 3 miles NW of Marco after his second marriage to Nancy Ann Page. He had made two other good farms in addition to his present homestead farm of near 100 acres. He also built the first little water milll on Black Creek and later sold the mill to Drury Boyd..

Per the Goodspeed History of Greene & Sullivan Counties, Benjamin was a Democrat in politics, held the office of Trustee, and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.3,4,2

Benjamin married Martha "Patty" Ball on 31 May 1833 in Greene County, Indiana. Martha and Benjamin had four children, namely Luzetta (ca1833-ca1850), Berlin (1835-1917), Isaiah (ca1838-?), and Dorcas (1840-1859)..5

Benjamin was listed as the head of household in the 30-40 age group in the 1840 Census at Greene County, Indiana. Included in the household were 1 female 15-20 (unknown - his wife should have been 29), 1 female 5-10 (probably Luzetta), 1 female under 5 (unknown), and 2 males under 5 (probably Berlin & Isaiah)..6
