Roger Conant was born before 9 April 1592 at East Budleigh, Devonshire, England. He was the youngest of 8 children of Richard and Agnes (Clarke) Conant.3
On 20 January 1619, Roger and his brother Christopher acted as sureties when John Conant compounded for the First Fruits of the Rectory of Lymington. He was identified as a salter (deler in salt) from the parish of St. Lawrence, Jewry, London.4
Roger probably arrived in Plymouth circa July 1623 on the ship Anne, together with his brother, Christopher, his wife Sarah and son Caleb. In a petition to the General Court, dated 28 May 1671, he says that he has been "a planter in New England forty-eight years and upwards," placing his arrival early in 1623. In the allotment of land to the passengers of the Anne, ten acres were allotted to "Mr. Ouldom & those joyned with him." This group probably included Roger and his family.5
Roger was mentioned in the will of his father, Richard Conant, in which his daughter, Sarah, was named as an heir 20 November 1629 East Budleigh, Devon, England; Richard Conant, of East Budleigh in the countie of Devon, yeoman, left a will dated 20 November 1629 and proved on 13 October 1631. The will makes specific bequests to his grandson Richard Conant, sonne of Richard Conant; to his sons John and Richard Conant; to his granddaughter Sarah Conant, daughter of his son Roger Conant; to his granddaughters Jane and Susan Knowles, daughters of his daughter Jane/Wooton; and to his daughter Jane and her husband Phillipe Wotton. Jane Wotton was made executrix and John Conant was made overseer of the will.6 He died on 19 November 1679 at Beverly, Essex Co., Massachusetts.7
