Helen Blackwood Smith died in 1922 so there must have been a divorce sometime between 1877 (last child) and 1881 (next marriage)..1

However, James together with George & Margaret did not receive a new guardian in 1852. Since Margaret was 17 in 1852, it appears that this was about the age when a guardian was unnecessary. If so, James was probably less than 17 in 1848. For now, assume he was born about 1834 between George (assumed 1832) and Margaret (1835).
