Solomon Conn

     Solomon Conn was born circa 1838 at Pennsylvania.1

Solomon appeared on the census of 1860 at Winamac, Pulaski, Indiana, in the household of his parents Jesse and Sarah Conn. He was 22, born in Pennsylvania.2

He married Xarissa Elizabeth Noyes, daughter of Amos Noyes and Lavinia Crocker, on 14 September 1862 at Dearborn, Indiana.3

Solomon was listed as the head of family in the 1870 Census in Franklin, Pulaski, Indiana. He was He was 32, listed as a farmer, born in Pennsylvania. Included in the household were his wife, Xarissa, and two children, Calfax,3, and William G., 1. Also in the household was William Conn, 21, probably his brother..4

Samuel D. Houston

     Samuel D. Houston was born on 8 November 1826 in Greene County, Tennessee.1

When about five years of age, Samuel moved with his parents to Indiana where he lived until August 1849, when he came to Iowa and settled near Albia. After living there about two years he moved to Benton township, in Lucas county, and located on the farm where he resided until his death.1

Samuel married Marena Jentry McKinley on 10 June 1851 in Lucas County, Iowa. Marena and Samuel had at least the following children:

Samuel was listed as the head of household in the 1880 Census in Benton Township, Lucas County, Iowa. He was 53, born in Tennessee, and listed as a farmer. Included in the household were his wife J. Marena (47, IN); two sons, Walter (13, IA) and Charles (26, IA, listed as insane); and three daughters, Anna (15, IA), Ethel (11, IA), and Carrie (7, IA).5

Samuel died He died in his home after an illness of a little over a week, with inflammation of the stomach. Funeral services were held at his late home on Sunday morning at 11 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Armstrong of Russell who took for his text, Hebrews 13:14, "For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come." Two favorite hymns of the deceased, "Jesus, Lover of my Soul" and "Rock of Ages" were sung and after the services had been concluded a large concourse of neighbors and friends followed the remains to the Chariton cemetery where they were tenderly laid to rest. on 14 February 1896 in Benton Township, Lucas County, Iowa, at age 69.6,1 He was buried in the Chariton Cemetery** at Chariton, Lucas County. His grave is in Section C, Row 2, Grave 10.1
