Phinnie's petition addressed to the Council dated Oct 4, 1775, asking that he and the other officers be recommended to Gen'l Washington for commissions and it was ordered in Council on Oct 6, 1775 that they be recommended for commissios in the Continental Army.2 Samuel resided in Gray and Falmouth, York Co., MA. He served on the Committee of Safety for Falmouth. He commanded a company under Col. Edmund Phinney at the Lexington Alarm. He ended military service on 28 May 1783 in Falmouth. In 1783, he was sent to the General Court to renew Falmouth's petition to be set off as a separate town.5
