Paul Prince was born on 14 March 1720 at Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.1,2 Paul moved with his father to North Yarmouth in 1727. After his marriage there, he lived in the "Loring Blockhouse" with his brother-in-law Solomon Loring (who had married Alice, older sister of Hannah). At that time it was considered essential that every family should be within reach of a place of refuge from the Indians. After the birth of his first two children, Sarah and Cushing, he built a one-storied home convenient to the Scales garrison in that part of North Yarmouth known as Cumberland. He lived there until his death. It is said that the home never had a room finished off although he was wealthy enough to give each of his sons 100 acres of land and each daughter 50 acres.

Paul was an able and energetic man and sustained his share in public and private trusts. When the difficulties which led to the Revolutionary War arose, he warmly supported the colonist's side.

Paul and Hannah joined the Congregational Church on 3 March 1745.3

Paul married Hannah Cushing on 8 September 1743 in North Yarmouth, Cumberland County, Massachusetts, (now Cumberland Co., ME). Paul and Hannah had at least 10 children:

Benjamin Milliken

M, b. 5 August 1728, d. 22 October 1791
FatherEdward Milliken b. 6 Jul 1706
MotherAbigail Norman b. 16 Jul 1710
Benjamin Milliken was born on 5 August 1728 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1,2 He was baptized on 29 May 1729 in Scarborough, York Co., Massachusetts, (now Cumberland Co., Maine).1

Benjamin began his remarkable career in his native town of Scarborough where he owned a large gambril-roofed house and had a store on Dunstan road. He owned land in Rowley, Canada (now near Nashua, N.H.) which had been granted to soldiers or heirs who had served in the Canadian expedition in 1696. When the boundary line between Massachusetts and New Hampshire was established, these lands were found to be part of New Hampshire so Benjamin, with other petitioners, was granted in 1761 a toiwnship 7 miles square. This was east of Saco River and was given to them in lieu of the property they had lost. Benjamin was one of three who laid out the township "Pondicherry", now Bridgeton, Maine. He later moved and built a saw mill on Union River (now known as Ellsworth).

In a deposition in 1796, Ephraim Dyer, owner of a vessel, testified that he carried about 400 pounds (more than $2,000 in present day money) worth of provisions to the Millikens and remained and helped nearly a fortnight during which time workmen lived in Dyer's vessel until a house was built.

Thirty-two workmen were employed to build the mill which accounts for the great amount of money spent on food. The first meal ever prepared in that township by a white woman, accoriding to record, was prepared by a 14-year old daughter of Benjamine Milliken (possibly Charlotte).

This first sawmill proved almost a failure and was soon abandoned. Afterwards they built a double sawmill on another river and carried on their lumber business successfully for many years. They owned vessels and shipped much of the manufactured lumber to Connecticut to sell.

Since Benjamin Milliken had expressed Tory sentiments and feeling was running high when the Revolutionary War broke out, fearing for the safety of his family and himself, he was persuaded by friends to join the British at Castine. Per Loyalists of the American Revolution, Gregory Palmer, p.604, in June 1775 a mob of sixty robbed him of his weapons, consisting of two swivel guns, two muskets, and a silver-handled sword.

According to "The Loyalists of Massachusetts - Their Memorials, Petitions, and Claims" by E. Alfred Jones, "Benjamin Milliken was employed during the war as a pilot on several British ships, before he was taken prisioner by Col. Allen and his Indians. Two of his sons-in-law were loyalists. With his memorial, dated from St. Andrews, New Brunswick, March 16, 1786, are certificates to his loyality from Dr. John Calef, Captain George Haslam, and Thomas Pagan, and a certificate of Jacob Lord, a former tenant of Milliken, regarding his confiscated property, and another from James Lord."

Per Loyalists of the American Revolution, Benjamin took an oath of allegiance to the British when they captured Penobscot in 1779, and then returned with a sloop to Union Bridge to collect timber for the British garrison.

On Millekin's second voyage, the sloop was captured by the Whigs. When Penobscot was besieged by the Whigs, Milliken set out with his neighbors and two sons-in-law to assist the garrison, but he was imprisoned and confined for the rest of the siege. Afterwards, he served as a pilot for the Royal Navy, but was captured again at Union Bridge by a party of Indians under the Whig Colonel Ethan Allen, while looking for timber for masts. Millikin settled at St. Andrew's, New Brunswick after the Peace. He estimated his loss at 1,709 pounds sterling and was awarded 464 pounds sterling.

Benjamin appears on a "List of the Inhabitants with their Families who Propose to Move from Penobscot to Nova Scotia" dated at Halifax 4 July 1783. On that list, he had 7 in his household over 10 and 5 under 10.

On 12 August 1784 with about 100 others known as the "Penobscot Association Loyalists", Benjamin received two grants of land from the government. Their town grant comprised the town of St. Andrews and their farm lots under separate grants included several tracts extending from Bocabec westerly along the coast to St. Stephen, with an additional tract on the St. Croix River above what is now Milltown.

Shortly after these lands were granted Benjamin left St. Andrews and went to Bocabec, where he built a house and a shipyard and built vessels. Here he spent the remainder of his life, and his grave is here in a lot with other family members.

Rev. G. T. Ridlon's "History of the Families Millingas and Millanges" states: "He has been called 'Royalist Ben', 'Tory Ben', and 'Runaway Ben'; but on good authority we are ready to assume that Benjamin Milliken was a man of noble impulses and superior moral character, who was impelled to make the sacrifices he did from what was, to him, principle, and his expatriation showed him to have been a loyal Royalist".

Benjamin married Sarah Smith on 17 November 1746.3

Benjamin married Elizabeth Banks on 9 September 1754 in York County, Massachusetts.1

Benjamin married Phoebe Jordan on 4 December 1766 in Falmouth, Cumberland Co., Massachusetts, (now Cumberland, ME). Benjamin and Phebe were married by Rev. Ephraim Clark, Pastor, 2nd Parish. He is listed as from Scarboro..4

Benjamin died on 22 October 1791 in Saint-Andrews, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada, at age 63.5,2 He was buried in the St Patricks Parish at St Andrews, Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada.2
