- [S333] Assumption:, This date was guessed from the birthdate of her husband. Kenneth Tinkham has identified Ruth as the daughter of Jacob Cooke and Demaris Hopkins. However Wakefield states in Mayflower Descendants, Vol. 7, that a search of the records has found no evidence that she actually was a Cooke.

M, b. 15 November 1663
Father | Ephraim Tinkham b. 6 Jan 1616, d. b 5 Jun 1685 |
Mother | Mary Browne b. c 1626, d. a Nov 1689 |
John Tinkham was born on 15 November 1663 at Town of Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.1
John Tinkham claimed two-thirds of "Peter Brown's share", apparently in Bristol County, MA, which was left by deed from Abraham Tucker's father; Abraham Tucker claimed the other third of the share.2
On 6 November 1689John Tinkham obtained all the land given to his brother, Elkiah Tinkham by their father, Ephraim Tinkham, being the one third share (Bristol County Deeds, 7:457).3
John Tinkham, together with Abraham Tucker, was confirmed as a Proprietor of Dartmouth in Bristol County, Massachusetts, by Major William Bradford (Bristol Deeds, 1:365).4
John bought two parts of eight of one third of a share of land at Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, from his brother Ephraim Tinkham Jr. for 14 pounds on 15 April 1696 (Bristol Co. Deeds 7:418).5
On 6 July 1714, John Tinkham purchased from his brother Ebenezer Tinkham and his brother-in-law John Tomson two eights part of one third part of one whole share for 90 pounds (Bristol County Deed, 9:65). On 19 March 1715/6 his sister Mary Tomson released her rights to the land.6
John married Sarah [--?--] Tinkham before 1720. John was about 57 when his first child, John Jr., was born. Although this was unusual, a thorough search of Bristol County deeds shows that it must have been the case. There are many John Tinkham deeds and none call him Jr. or Sr., leading to the conclusion that there was only one John Tinkham. A deed on 7 March 1714/15 clearly proves that John was alive on that date.
A 1921 manuscript by Horace W. Tinkham says that John first married a Hannah and that she died in Dartmouth 6 Oct 1694. It also lists a son Seth who died in 1725. No documentation has been found to support these statements..7 He died before 15 January 1739/40 (when his eldest son John was appointed administrator for his estate) at Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.8
