Her birthdate was certified in Mahala Guthrie's application for a pension for the minor children of her deceased husband, Daniel Archer, on 23 Jan 1867 in Greene County, Indiana. This birthdate was confirmed by Manerva (Stanley) Duncan, Mahala's sister, in the pension application.1

Also in the household were a servant, Anna Dove, and her two children.13

A contempt order was issued for David in Circuit Court on that date for not paying a previous judgement for a weekly allowance to Ada. The record says that David "purges himself of contempt herein" (presumably he paid up) and is discharged for the present.14
David married Daisy Dyre on 16 August 1904 in Coal City, Owen County, Indiana, by Rev. Nathaniel Fontz. It was his 3rd marriage; her first. He was listed as a miner residing in Linton IN..15
David was listed as the head of household in the 1910 Census in Jackson Township, Sullivan County, Indiana. He was 50, born in Indiana, and listed as a coal miner but out of work for 30 weeks. Included in the household were his wife, Daisy (30, IN); a son, Orville (7, IN) (from a previous wife?); and two daughters, Goldie (5, IN) and Dollie (3, IN).16 David apparently killed his wife, Daisy, and her lover on 6 September 1912 when he caught them together. He was tried and sentenced to 15/18 years in the Michigan City prison. But he apparently got out early because he married again in 1921.17
David married Martha M Huffman (nee Dayhof) on 13 April 1921 in Jasonville, Greene County, Indiana. They were married by Jacob M Littlejohn, DDM. Martha was the daughter of Stanley Dayhof and Martha A Cole, both deceased. This was her 4th marriage; one prevous one had been ended by death and two by divorce, the most recent on 30 Mar 1921. This was also David's 4th marriage. He was a miner at the time of this marriage..18
David was divorced from Martha on 8 July 1922 at Greene County, Indiana. Her complaint is unknown but David failed to appear in court and the divorce was granted and her maiden name of Martha Huffman was restored. David was ordered to pay her costs. The divorce was filed in February 1923.19
David appeared in the census of 1930 as a lodger in the household of Walter Kreske at Wright Township, Greene County, Indiana. He was 67, born in Indiana and working as a janitor in a yard hotel..20
David died on 4 October 1948 in R.R.5, Brazil, Rural Township, Clay County, Indiana, at age 86. He died of cardio renal failure at the home of his son, Otis, south of Brazil, Indiana. He was survived by two sons; Otis Archer, RR#5, Brazil, and Ernest Archer of New Jasonville; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Birkenruthe, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Ada Brooks, Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren..21,22,23 He was buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Linton, Greene County. A family story is that when David died, all of his former wives showed up at his funeral (except the one - Daisy? - that he shot and killed. (Per Archer family notes).24,25

He was tried and sentenced to 15/18 years in the Michigan City prison. But he apparently got out early because he married again in 1921.17

David was divorced from Martha on 8 July 1922 at Greene County, Indiana. Her complaint is unknown but David failed to appear in court and the divorce was granted and her maiden name of Martha Huffman was restored. David was ordered to pay her costs. The divorce was filed in February 1923.19
David appeared in the census of 1930 as a lodger in the household of Walter Kreske at Wright Township, Greene County, Indiana. He was 67, born in Indiana and working as a janitor in a yard hotel..20
David died on 4 October 1948 in R.R.5, Brazil, Rural Township, Clay County, Indiana, at age 86. He died of cardio renal failure at the home of his son, Otis, south of Brazil, Indiana. He was survived by two sons; Otis Archer, RR#5, Brazil, and Ernest Archer of New Jasonville; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Birkenruthe, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Ada Brooks, Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren..21,22,23 He was buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Linton, Greene County. A family story is that when David died, all of his former wives showed up at his funeral (except the one - Daisy? - that he shot and killed. (Per Archer family notes).24,25
