Fulk, may actually been a James E. Fulk living in Greene Co. where Isabell lived and the marriage took place. However, this seems unlikely because that James Fulk was listed as a single member in his parent's household in 1870, a year after the marriage took place. The list of James' and Isabell's children was taken from the 1880 Census.

Lucinda Catherine Drake

FatherJames Drake b. c 1823, d. 20 Dec 1876
MotherElizabeth Stanley b. 5 Dec 1830, d. 13 Oct 1866
     Lucinda Catherine Drake was also known as Lucinda Catherine Hackett. She married John Hackett. Lucinda Catherine Drake was born on 29 July 1861 in Indiana. It appears that she was generally known as Kate throughout her life, presumably because there was already a Lucinda and a Catherine in the family at the time..1,2

Lucinda appeared in the census of 1870 in the household of her father James Drake at Smith Township, Greene County, Indiana. She was 9, born in Indiana.3

Lucinda was named as an heir in the will of her grandmother, Mary Ball, on 24 May 1875 at Greene County.4

Kate had a son, Otto, who was born out of wedlock in 1881. His father was Thomas Graham, who was born in England and lived in St Louis, MO. Gloria understands that Kate met Graham while she was working at a hotel in Indiana, and that he was already married when Kate got pregnant. He was supposed to be well-to-do and sent money over the years. Much later he wanted to marry Kate, but she refused, saying that he had abandoned her when she needed him.5,6,7

During Otto's teens, Kate lived in St Louis and ran a large boarding house on Gamble Street.

Kate married Lee Connell on 1 June 1898 in Clayton, St Louis County, Missouri.8

Katie appeared in the census of 1900 in the household of her husband Lee Connell at District 0229, St Louis Ward 15, St Louis (independent city), Missouri. She was 35, born in Indiana.5

Kate resided with her husband Lee Connell, at 2102 Olive, St Louis, Missouri, in 1908.9

Kate was divorced from Lee Connell sometime before 1917.

Kate married John Hackett before 1920.10 Kate appeared in the census of 1920 in the household of her husband John Hackett at Ward 8, East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois.10 John died in 1922.

Lucinda married William Andrew Fulk on 26 April 1926. According to family history, after William Andrew Fulk's first wife, Kate's aunt Lucinda Stanley, died in 1926, he wanted Kate to move to Indiana to be his housekeeper. When she refused in order to avoid gossip, he proposed marriage. Initially Kate was indignant that this older man would want to marry her but eventually she consented and she took care of him until he died..6

Lucinda died on 12 April 1934 in East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois, at age 72.6,2,11 She was buried on 12 April 1934 in the William Pugh plot in Section D of the Mt Hope Cemetery near Belleville, St Clair County, Illinois.6

William Pugh

M, b. 13 September 1851, d. 21 February 1921
FatherDaniel Pugh b. 16 Feb 1809, d. 19 Feb 1871
     William Pugh was born on 13 September 1851 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio. William was the son of Daniel Pugh and Sophia Parker..1,2

William appeared in the census of 1860 in the household of his father, Daniel Pugh at Greene County, Indiana. He was 9, born in Ohio. Included in the household were his father, Daniel (52); his mother, Sophia (49); and two older siblings, Henry (19) and Mary E (15).3 He also appeared in the census of 1870 in the same household at Greene County. He was 18.4

William married Sarah Margaret Drake on 20 October 1871 in Greene County, Indiana. William and Sarah were supposed to be married at Sarah's aunt's house. But this was in the wrong county for the marriage license so they moved the ceremony to a nearby riverbank in the proper county..5,6

William was listed as the head of household in the 1880 Census in Greene County, Indiana. He was 29, born in Ohio, and listed as a farmer. Included in the household were his wife, Sarah (25, IN), and 3 daughters; Hattie (8,IN), Essie (3,IN), and Delia (1,IN). In the same household were 2 boarders, Henry Padgett (28,IN) and William Johnson (50,KY).7

William and Sarah had at least 7 children, including:
     - Hattie Florence, 1874-1910. Married ? Reed, then Gus School, then Warren Rose;
     - Essie Belle, 1876-1933. Married John Frederick Werner. 2 children.
     - Della Catherine, 1878-1974. Married Martin Andrew Schalk. 2 children.
     - Gertrude Jeanette, 1883-1908.
     - Cloha Myrtle, 1889-1974. Married William Morrison. 2 daughters.
     - Mabel Marie, 1898-1993. Married Louis Roth. 4 children;
     - Roy Edward. 1891-1891.6

William farmed in Indiana and had a small coal mine in later years. In 1885, he got the "Kansas fever" and went there. Sarah did not want to go but they went west with William's mother Sophia, his brothers Isaac and Henry, his sister-in-law Elizabeth Drake, and the oldest 4 of their 6 girls. Their cattle and household goods were shipped west in a railroad boxcar. The family may have travelled to Kansas with two teams and two covered wagons or perhaps by train. They went first to Halsted, Kansas (north of Wichita) and then to Hutchinson (farther NW). According to Ed Schalk, William had two good corn crops, but the third burned up in two days of high heat. Also, his eyes started troubling him - a problem he called "oat poisoning". Gloria's understanding is that William used the teams for dray work and his eyes may have been affected by the sand in the air. In any case, discouraged, William and Sarah headed back east with the children, Isaac, and his mother, Sophia. The family travelled to Buffalo, Missouri, where they stayed several years and, according to Ed Schalk, William helped build the first reservoir in Springfield, Missouri. The family was also at Nevada, Missouri, for a year. By the time they reached St Louis about 1891, William had gone blind. Fortunately, he found a Dr. Campbell who was able to cure him.

Sophia died in St Louis about this time and the family eventually moved from st Louis to East St Louis, Illinois, where they first lived on the Jones Farm (now the site of Jones Park). Finally they built a house at N. 33rd St, In East St Louis about 1910. According to Mabel Pugh, William Pugh's wagons and horse teams were used to help build Union Station in St Louis. Toward the end of his life, William worked for a railroad and operated the watchman's tower at the switchyard.6

William was listed as the head of household in the 1885 Kansas State Census, Harvey County. He was 32, born in Ohio, and listed as a farmer. Listed in the household were his wife Sarah (26, IN); and 4 daughters all born in Indiana, Hallie (13), Essie (9), Della (6), and Gertie (1.)8

William was listed as the head of household in the 1900 Census in Ward 7, East St Louis Township, East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois. He was 48, born in Ohio, and listed as a common laborer. Included in the household were his wife, Sarah (45,IN); 4 daughters, Della (21,IN), Gertrude (16,IN), Cloid (11,MS), and Mabel (2,IL); his son, Hiram (1,IL); and his brother, Isaac (66,OH).9

William was listed as the head of household in the 1910 Census in Ward 8, East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois. He was 58, born in Ohio, and listed as a sump tender. Included in the household were his wife, Sarah (55,IN); and 2 daughters, Cloha (21,Ohio) and Mabel (12,IL).10

William died on 21 February 1921 in East St Louis, St Clair County, Illinois, at age 69.6,2 He was buried in the Pugh plot in Mount Hope Cemetery at Belleville, St Clair County, Illinois.6,2
